Deep in the Noosa hinterland, the Tinbeerwah House & Studio interconnects two main steel framed volumes for living and sleeping, perched up high to overlook broad views of the Pacific coastline and the forested hinterland. The main areas of the house step down running with the natural topography and connect through the living area and the northern pool deck space, whilst a separate ‘silver shed’ art studio protrudes outwards across the fall of the slope. The effect of this creates a south lit, plywood lined space for painting up amongst the trees.
Taking architectural cues from the Bark Studio, this house explores notions of expressing ‘a legibility of construction’, with its simple clean spaces contained in a series of steel portal frames and glazing, which contrast with the economic modules of lightweight sheet and hardwood chamferboard cladding. Layers of transparent glass integrate the indoor and outdoor spaces, bridging patterns of light, shadow and reflection throughout the house. To minimise the need for any artificial light, ventilation, heating or cooling, the building has been designed to maximise passive temperature and airflow using cross ventilation and stack effect principles. Ultimately the Tinbeerwah House embraces elements of lightness and natural breezes in breathtaking simplicity to enable and enhance a contemporary lifestyle.
