‘Bush House’ 2007 at Agnes Water, Discovery Coast.
Carefully placed upon its bushland site on Queensland’s Discovery Coast, this little timber house exhibits a rich and direct experience of the environment and microclimate.
With an appreciation of both design and economy, the client brief called for a minimal but comfortable bush house to be carefully nestled into a Melaleuca forest.
The result, a modular timber box home, offers compact internal accommodation attached to a generous double-height, insect-screened ‘Bahama’ room; roof planes welcome northern winter sun while long verandah-type spaces encourage natural cross ventilation; plywood floor and wall linings are in keeping with a spare and essential design that encourages the focus to remain on the richness displayed outside.
