Bark were recently invited to participate in the Asia Pacific Design Library Lecture Series 2012 at the State Library of Qld. The lecture series featuring internationally renowned speakers explored architectural issues within, around and beyond the city and presented an insight into the design processes and solutions of the contemporary architect. A selection of Twitter Feed Comments received during the presentation included:

Widely published, our Marcus Beach House project has made the front  cover of Braun Publishings ‘Tropical Houses – Living in Paradise’ publication. The six page article is filled with wonderful photography courtesy of Christopher Frederick Jones.

Sited 250 meters away from Marcus Beach, Sunshine Coast, the basic ‘pavilion’ plan was sketched out in the sand during an early site visit. A simple diagram of two timber pavilions placed either side of a venerable 50 year old Morton Bay Ash ensures that the tree takes centre stage to the scale, proportions and life of the house around it.

Celebrating its natural, coastal setting, the house provides its occupants with an inextricable link to the landscape. Exploring ideas of lightness, layers of transparency and integrating indoor / outdoor living within dynamic patterns of light and shadow, the Marcus Beach house is a simple frame to enable a contemporary coastal lifestyle to unfold within a very special landscape.

The work of 22 contemporary Queensland architectural practices will feature in a major new exhibition exploring diverse design responses to our climate, changing lifestyle patterns and population growth. ‘Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects’ spans residential, public and institutional projects built in the last 15 years and incorporates several generations of architects.

The exhibition runs between 2 August and 23 November 2008 and will be the largest exhibition of contemporary architecture ever staged in an Australian art museum. Architects will include: Rex Addison, Andresen O’Gorman, Arkhefield, Bark, Bligh Voller Nield, Bud Brannigan Architects, Lindsay & Kerry Clare (Architectus), Cox Rayner Architects, Donovan Hill, Richard Kirk Architect, JMA Architects, M3architecture, Ian Moore Architects, Owen and Vokes, Phorm Architecture + Design, Gabriel Poole, Riddel Architecture, James Russell Architect, Brian Steendÿk, Jennifer Taylor and James Connor, Elizabeth Watson Brown Architects and Wilson Architects.

Bark is proud to appear in a new book titled, Next Wave: Emerging Talents in Australian Architecture, profiling 16 young architectural practices.  Four of Bark’s award winning designs are detailed in the book, including Art Box, Bark Studio, Hervey Bay House and Tinbeerwah Residence.

The author, Davina Jackson, is the Associate Professor of Multi-Disciplinary Design at the University of New South Wales, and was formerly editor of Architecture Australia.

‘Next Wave’ is published by Thames & Hudson London and follows a series of International Architecture books with titles such as Super Dutch, Swiss Made, All American and Anglo Files.
