Bark Design Architects are now working through their second decade of design projects in South East Queensland as an energetic and collaborative team of seven to eight people, working from a custom designed Noosa hinterland ‘barefoot’ studio.
At Bark, we have a genuine 'studio' based culture in the practice. The direction of the team of Phil Tillotson, Jo-Anne Bourke, Jon Warton and Maia Close is derived from a synergy and committed collaboration of the partners, Stephen Guthrie and Lindy Atkin, who actively lead and participate in the output of the office, whilst our workplace, design focus, ethos, and generation attracts and nurtures a very committed and talented team.
Prior national and international experience, and over 10 years as Bark in a rapidly developing region allows some reflection and refining of capabilities and design solutions. These capabilities have been critical to the process of establishing and expanding the practice from 2 to 6 people, which has occurred simultaneously with the fast and continued growth of the Sunshine Coast region.
Bark's team approach engages the knowledge and experience of the entire team, and encourages collaboration both within the design studio and with clients, consultants and specialists. As a 'new' generation architectural practice, our work is associative and made complete only by the synergy of our team environment.
Mentoring systems and the promotion of a 'hands on' experience philosophy are key to fostering young and upcoming architects at Bark. Regular design meetings provide a vital forum for the discussion of projects, and create a platform for creativity and new solutions appropriate to each design.
